Archangel-DT Card for The Corrosive Challenge Blog

Hello my darlings!
I'm glad you've found me here.
Grab a cuppa, and linger for awhile.
Today I'm sharing the DT card I made for the new challenge at, The Corrosive Challenge Blog.
I'm the blog hostess for the challenge this time, so check it out, and leave some love for me there!
As the hostess, I get to choose the theme, so our challenge this fortnight is, "Things With Wings"
Create a project incorporating something "Winged"

We're delighted to be sponsored by

I chose to work with the beautiful and detailed image, Archangel.
You can find more inspiration on the artby miran fb here, and the artby Miran blog here.

As this is my first time as a blog hostess, I was a little anxious; I wanted to start my card early so I would enjoy creating it.
That worked out well because I had time to play with  some of the mixed media stash I've been hording collecting.
I usually feel too rushed to dabble with things that take more than two minutes to dry.
I keep seeing these beautiful cards on the interwebs, which have corrugated cardboard integrated into them.  I've been wanting to use the corrugated carboard I've had in my stash for decades. It's vintage.
I'm sure it's about 20 years ago, that I picked up a few packages. I was going to use it to wrap around pillar candles and add fun things like twine, and pine cones, and do something wonderfully rustic with it.
That's not happening...but hey,I'm glad I have a new plan for it now!

Once I had this detailed angel colored, and had my cardboard all white washed, and pasted up with gel, and beads, the card just kind of came together, and began to tell a story.
I have so many diecuts that never seem to get used, so I decided to use a ton on this card.
You can't really see it anymore, but I started with dp from this fabulous paper pack, I picked up by Maja Design
I've never paid $20 for a 6x6 pack of paper before, but I think it's worth every shekel.
It's just like that beautiful Pion paper that I love to use so much!
I  added cheesecloth, lace, and pearls.
First I edged the diecuts with pumice stone Distress ink. Then embossed all 14 die cut pieces with Frantage Shabby White.
I love to glue fine diecuts and chipboard onto my cards with Tombo Mono Multi  glue(just in case you were wondering).
I should have used white Gesso to do the white wash on my cardboard piece, but I thought it would be quicker to just use Picket Fence Distress Paint.
That dried in about a minute. Then I used Liquitex Glass Beads Texture Gel.
I believe I'm starting to understand some mixed media lingo. If it's a gel, it's going to dry clear, if it's a paste, it will dry opaque.
Does that sound about right?
I used a heat tool on it, and was happily surprised at how fast the gel dried.
Good to know...I will be experimenting with more of that.
I applied just a touch of Viva Gold here, and there, which really gave my card a vintage feel to it.
The sentiment, "Angels sent from up above, please protect the ones we love!" is from a Kraftin Kimmie stamp.
I believe prayer is a key that can open doors so I of course added a key!
I just started watching Dr. Who,(I know right!!) and I guess I was inspired by the Doctor, because I thought my altered piece of cardboard could be a door to another dimension!
And I just picked up that awesome, two piece, screw on, door knob(does that even sound a little bit normal, haha)?! Well, you can unscrew the knob if you want to.
I thought I would have hoarded that little, metal trinket for a little longer, but it didn't hurt so badly to use it up because I bought two.
A couple of weeks ago, I broke a very ornate Fabergee egg that was given to me years ago, by a very dear friend who is no longer in my life. The goose egg was covered in these beautiful, gold laden, rhinestone circles. It was one of my favorite "things".
I saved every one of those rhinestone circles and liberally sprinkled some of them throughout the card. I think there's probably 100 more of them but I have to pry them off of the shattered pieces of shell.
Whenever something would break, my other
mother in law would always say, "good things come from broken shards". It was some kind of Dutch saying. She had a ton of those clever synonyms.
I'll have to keep this card and display it where I can see it everyday. That way I'll still have a little piece of that wonderful gift, which brings my dear friend to mind.
I still might alter this card and turn it into a canvas.

Thanks for stopping in today!
You can play along and link up with us at TCCB.
The random winner will receive 3 art by miran images of your choice.

Both your post and your creation are just sheer perfection! I am loving the reuse of those gorgeous clusters from the shattered egg. It's nice to incorporate cherished, broken loveliness into our works, isn't it? I am also on a kick of using corrugated cardboard on my projects recently. It adds such a nice dimension and texture to nearly every type of design.
Great job on your hostessing skills. Practice makes perfect.
Hugs,
Glo
